The 2017 Vermont Afterschool Conference brings together youth programs and community partners to connect, learn new ideas, access valuable resources, and transform learning outside of the school day for Vermont youth in grades K-12. Featuring Keynote Speaker Michele Borba. Dr. Borba is a globally-recognized educational psychologist whose aim is to strengthen children's empathy and resilience, and break the cycle of youth violence. She has delivered keynotes and workshops to over 1,000,000 participants and authored 24 books translated into 14 languages, most recently Unselfie which will be available for purchase and signing. Dr. Borba will be leading an inspiring and information keynote session about cultivating empathy, as well as offering a workshop that takes a deeper dive into the topic.
In total, this statewide professional development experience offers more than 5.5 hours of quality training plus time for visiting with exhibitors, hearing from state leaders and special guests, and networking with other programs and providers from around the state. Our 2017 conference will offer 26 workshop selections, including full-day strands, that focus on best practices in out-of-school time programming, youth development, and expanded learning opportunities. There is also a pre-conference option on November 2, 2017 on the Youth Program Quality Assessment tool for afterschool program staff.
